Londinium – the Roman City

Let me take you back 2000 years to Roman London. We’ll visit the original sites of palaces, bath houses, temples and fortresses as we follow the path of Roman roads and find a city that is always nine feet below the current one. This city has been revealed by fire, aerial warfare and rapacious development, and I’ll be taking you to a number of spaces where the Roman city is now on public display. The story of Rome’s four centuries in the city is one of an empire in full pomp and slow retreat. They created a trade artery which continues to have an ongoing impact on London’s development and is in many ways responsible for its later place as a truly global city.
